Ghosted

Ghosted is a disposable parade of cheap tropes. There's contrived emotions, cringe romance, corny humor, rush developments, numbing action, predictability, blunt dialogue, plot armor, MacGuffins, deus ex machina, conveniences, weak villains, illogical choices, forced arcs, and a wholly forgettable conflict. The protagonists are flat, inconsistent, and boring. Its acting has no chemistry, enthusiasm, or variety. The film even renders its one trick (gender-swapping the civilian/spy relationship) meaningless. Its brief successes are greatly outweighed by lifeless failures. Basic ingredients are present but there's no heart to be found. Overall, Ghosted is empty, cliche, and surprisingly lazy.

Technically, Ghosted is derivative. Its clumsy direction has no personality, fumbling tones, action, and tension. The shallow editing is over-cut, bloated, and rushed. Its generic soundtrack is either temp music rip-offs or unmotivated pop hits. The imagery uses some motion and focus, but the lighting, colors, and composition are dull. Its production design undermines the globe-trotting with drab artificiality. The effects devolve into cartoonish CGI. Its inactive sound sticks to standard minimums. Ghosted's sole notable aspect is its cast of A-listers, skilled supporters, and abundant cameos. However, star power only goes so far. At best, Ghosted begs to be background noise.
