It Ends With Us

It Ends With Us addresses serious issues but is fraught with cliches. Sadly, these cheesy shortcomings directly undercut its sobering messages. There's artificial dialogue, contrived romance, predictability, inconsistencies, and simplistic characters. Still, the script sincerely attempts to unpack domestic violence. It considers contributing factors like cycles of abuse, denial as a coping mechanism, and the complications of nuance. Plus, the ending gives the female protagonist an independent arc, free of external saviors. Its acting delivers layers, vulnerability, chemistry, intensity, tension, and internal conflicts. Altogether, It Ends With Us's value outweighs its flaws.

Although glossy and muddled, It Ends With Us conveys clearheaded themes. Its imagery has golden lighting, varied framing, and shallow focus. While its inserts are effective, the editing creates sluggish momentum. Punctuated with muffling, split cuts, and echoes, its sound has subjective flourishes. The music contributes to the mood with intimate songs and key restraint. Despite its autumn aesthetic, its production design lacks a sense of location and depicts unrelatable wealth. Centered around Lively, the cast's fame, diversity, and fit are questionable. Its stunt and makeup effects are minor but powerful. Overall, It Ends With Us makes messy but productive statements.
