Practical Magic 2
Practical Magic 2 is frustrating. Exposition-heavy, the story is told rather than shown. Its underdeveloped drama leaves protagonists as broad outlines. These defects make the script inaccessible. Even when emotional moments occur, they feel distant. Intended as comedy, the clumsy banter more often comes across as confusing. It has excessive plotlines populated by pointless side characters. There's bland romance, contrivances, and cliches. Though it announces themes of generational sisterhood, it asserts little of value. Despite skill and charisma shining through, the performances seem disengaged or awkward at times. Altogether, Practical Magic 2 is a lackluster jumble.
Practical Magic 2 has scattered technicals. Its generic direction slapdashes tones. Besides brief golden lighting, the cinematography offers basic composition. Overlong, its editing is frazzled with rushed pacing, superfluous threads, uneven structure, and feeble momentum. The sound adds adequate fantasy elements as well as a trite voiceover bookend. Alongside mediocre scoring, its music utilizes feminine needle drops. A recognizable house (which is abandoned halfway through) is the only production design of note. Its cast provides excellent fame plus positive representation. The effects are moderate in quantity and quality. Thus, Practical Magic 2 doesn't justify itself.
