Scary Movie (2026)

Scary Movie is annoying nonsense. There's no story, just lazily connected sketches. Without critiques, pop culture references aren't satire. Without wit, crude topics aren't humor. Without insight, bringing up social issues isn't commentary. Instead, it's amateur, juvenile ramblings. Genuine comedy requires structure, creativity, and observation. This mindless writing rejects all of those qualities. There's blunt dialogue, superfluous characters, contrivances, filler, and self-indulgence. Its overacting is grating. The only slight positive is its meta ending, which subverts reboot norms. This is hardly earned, but at least it's the single clever thing the script offers.
Likewise, Scary Movie has incompetent technical execution. Beyond excessive exaggeration, its direction is a tone-deaf, aimless mess. The cinematography is flat and boring. Fundamentally non-sequential, its editing ricochets between pointless diversions without organization, momentum, or continuity. Though a non-factor, the soundscape brings adequate genre elements. Its music sprinkles abrupt, arbitrary needle drops around generic scoring. Alongside product placements, the production design consists of cheap imitations. Mediocre franchise returners as well as cameos fill its cast. The tacky effects are unconvincing. Overall, Scary Movie is downright unprofessional.
