The Bride!

Introducing several honorable ideas, The Bride! is unfortunately muddled. Themes of the patriarchy, rebellion, and otherism just aren't fully realized. This disrupts relatability as it's difficult to identify a core goal. Combining sci-fi with a noir template, its plot seems incidental because its protagonist lacks agency. Despite complex characters, viewers only get to know the heroine's true self as the story concludes. These issues aren't inherent flaws but combine into alienating drama. Providing needed vulnerability plus motivation (with heightened personalities), its performances soften the internally clashing script. Still, The Bride! is an overambitious hodgepodge.
Technically, The Bride! is bold yet erratic. Offsetting expressive applications of lighting, angles, and saturation, its cinematography often looks drab. Although there are stylistic flourishes like intercuts, its editing fumbles momentum throughout. Genre elements as well as narration are added via the soundscape. Its music utilizes a playful range of gothic influences, ragtime, and pop needle drops. Alongside symbolic colors, the production design blends Art Deco plus steampunk. Its cast contributes a significant depth of fame, prestige, and fit. The effects largely amount to Bale's central prosthetics. Overall, The Bride! is better in theory than in implementation.
