The Nun II

The Nun II is thoroughly boring. Its character drama and plot are both exceptionally thin, leaving the runtime with frustrating filler and repetitive fright tactics. It has muddled threads, obvious exposition, pointless characters, weak motivation, predictable cliches, minimal setup/payoff, no emotions, and a generic conflict with generic resolution. The acting is basic, mild, and forced because there's no substance to build off of. The monster is shallow, dialogue is stale, and every moment is mindless. Consequently, The Nun II halfheartedly wanders between tired and artificial jump scares. It has no story and seems either disinterested in or incapable of hiding that fact.

Technically, The Nun II is exhausted. Its direction offers dull tones, cheap tricks, limp energy, and no originality. The imagery is a blur of dark lighting and drab colors. Its editing provides no momentum, excessive padding, a dragging pace, and a meandering structure. The sound adds offscreens, distortions, and action, but overuses sudden stings. Its music is forgettable, the production design is monotonous, and the cast has very little fame. Its effects use some makeup and stunts, but the CGI is unnecessarily obvious. Ultimately, The Nun II is a hollow cash grab, wringing this franchise for its last bits of marketability. It has no trace of passion, creativity, or heart.
