65

65 supports a cheesy premise with slim execution. The drama is obvious, cliche, and shoehorned, confusing the tone. The simple plot is filled with random attacks. Each conflict quickly comes and goes, never fitting into a bigger narrative. It's all fake tension. Furthermore, characters are vague, defined by a single surrogate family trope. Driver is mild, showing brief vulnerability but no personality. Plus, there's weak humor, predictability, unclear logistics, no consequences, desensitizing combat, underutilized genre elements, coincidences, an overexplained premise, superficial payoff, and nonexistent resolution. Ultimately, 65 is derivative and one-note, making it a dull throwaway.

Technically, 65 feels secondhand. Its direction is blunt and basic, with a bland mood, structure, and style. The editing offers action, inserts, and a short runtime, but it's repetitive, awkwardly assembled, spatially confusing, and emotionally rushed. Its soundtrack and production design are generic and forgettable. The cast is thin, the cinematography is drab, and the effects overuse CGI. Its sound design adds creature noises, sci-fi atmosphere, and symbolic muffling, but never steals a scene. Overall, 65 is a mediocre production with a hesitant script. Key components and adequate filmmaking keep it from being a painful disaster, but everything is minimal.
