The Accountant 2 is saved by its leads. The convoluted mystery is generic. Its detective work and reveals are sporadically engaging, but devolve into exposition dumps plus magical espionage. The story often halts for meandering character digressions. While it's great to develop emotions, they're detached from the plot. The narrative abruptly switches between crime thriller and family drama. This is especially noticeable with how completely empty its villains are. Still, there's dry humor, setup/payoff, and acceptable arcs. Meanwhile, its acting carries the film with detailed personalities as well as effortless chemistry. Altogether, The Accountant 2 feels rather mixed.

Technically, The Accountant 2 is competent. Blending thrills with comedy, its tone is a strength. Though frequently drab or shaky, the imagery provides proper framing, lighting, and angles. Despite crafty details, its editing builds an odd structure, which yields sputtering momentum. Split cuts plus action elevate the soundscape. Its music uses fitting needle drops, yet the scoring is merely adequate. The production design touches on globe-trotting as well as seedy underbellies, but doesn't feel particularly immersive. Besides Affleck and Bernthal, its cast is replaceable. The effects provide stunts, CGI, and brief pyrotechnics. Overall, The Accountant 2 is generally middling.
