Death of a Unicorn mines social commentary from a high concept. It satirizes classism, exploitation, and humankind's relationship with nature. Dark humor is consistent via quippy dialogue plus calibrated performances. Turning points keep the plot moving early on. It has setup/payoff, genre-blending, and motivated characters. Though intuitive, the script's premise runs out of steam. While it stagnates once the mysteries are unveiled, its arc revives the narrative. Its acting maximizes the material with chemistry, wit, and range. Some might find its protagonists bland or the messages one-note, yet Death of a Unicorn delivers substance through an entertaining framework.

Technically, Death of a Unicorn unifies contrasting tones. Despite overly dark sequences, its cinematography provides decent variety. The editing softens struggling momentum with mini montages and action. Its sound offers genre elements (including flavorful monster calls) as well as subjective distortions. The music reinforces an ethereal personality. A thematic setting plus defining creatures are established in its production design. The cast combines fame, depth, fit, and moderate diversity. Mitigating spotty CGI with refreshing practicals, its effects add satisfying gore. Ultimately, Death of a Unicorn could've been developed more, but still accomplishes a respectable amount.
