Fantastic Four (2015) is butchered. Solely broad strokes, its writing is missing the details that make a story worth telling. It's all setup with no payoff, which is intensely unsatisfying. This comes with endless, dry exposition. Despite being a cursory retread, the plot completely swallows its script. Therefore, the characters are not developed, only given blunt scenes that state their traits rather than earning them. This is made worse by its disengaged acting, which replaces personality with frustrated apathy. There are lifeless emotions, predictable formulas, cliche dialogue, no arcs, and an anticlimactic ending. Consequently, Fantastic Four is a pointless vacuum.

Technically, Fantastic Four displays competencies but is deeply flawed. Its bland direction doesn't commit to a tone. Though there's lighting plus depth, the cinematography is frequently drab. Ruining momentum, pacing, and structure, its editing is the biggest shortcoming. The sound adds genre elements as well as a subjective sequence. Its scoring feels like a cheap imitation of better movies. Despite attempts at combining sci-fi with horror, the production design is often generic and sometimes silly. Its famous cast is woefully underutilized. The effects range from textured CGI to awkward green screens. Ultimately, Fantastic Four is a series of boring hesitations.
