Flight Risk is unexceptional. It supports a high concept with appropriate ingredients. There's motivation, shifting conflicts, twists, earned backstories, and a vague theme about trust. However, its execution is sloppy. The characters are cliche, resulting in weak arcs. Switching between heavy exposition and repetitive humor, its dialogue is blunt. Because the plot overshadows drama, there's a lack of falling action, noticeable contrivances, and broad emotions. Although they provide some layered intensity, the acting can be farcical plus their personalities are forced, both of which are worsened by minimal vulnerability. Consequently, Flight Risk just doesn't stand out.
Technically, Flight Risk is forgettable. While maintaining decent tension, its direction fails to unify a tone. Despite staying fairly fresh with a variety of angles, the cinematography's composition is indifferent. Its editing maintains solid momentum, yet its structure is uneven and there's missing flair. The sound provides standard ambiance and action. Offering generic scoring plus unmotivated songs, its music is unimpactful. Though prominent given its confined setting, the production design feels arbitrary. Its cast hinges on Wahlberg's fading fame. The effects combine okay stunts and makeup with distractingly cheap CGI. Overall, Flight Risk isn't worth much effort.
