It's What's Inside

Maximizing its high concept, It's What's Inside is a clever marriage of genre elements and social commentary. Centered around a party game, its plot is very straightforward. This allows space for entangled drama, where relationships and motivations are all deconstructed. These dynamics are the driving force of the story. Plus, this is rich with themes of peer pressure, identity, addiction, and validation. There are consistent twists, which keep raising the stakes and harnessing setup/payoff. Its dark humor suits the satire. The flavorful characters are solidified by the acting's potent range and layers. Consequently, It's What's Inside is intelligent entertainment.

Technically, It's What's Inside delivers flashy style and tones. Although arguably overdone, the imagery is defined by its impressive neon lighting and long takes. Its editing constantly pops with informed split screens, montages, and sharp momentum. Heightening emotions, the sound supplies plenty of subjective distortions. Intentionally channeling melodrama and juxtaposition, its music is eclectic and playful. The production design establishes a strong sense of location. Despite lacking star power, its cast has good diversity and decent up-and-comer potential. The effects amount to a few stunts and makeup. Ultimately, It's What's Inside oozes with crafty personality.
