Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill is lazy garbage. Its nonexistent script is a thin gimmick surrounded by aimless filler. Characters are blank or unlikeable, dialogue is artificial, there are no stakes, scenes are pointless, there's no chemistry or relationships, and the comedy is offensive. There's no structure, motivation, or momentum because there isn't a real plot. It's just a series of halfhearted situations with juvenile humor until the minimum length for a feature film is met. There's an insincere sentimental ending to give the illusion of an arc and message, but that's the most insulting part of all. Plus, acting is either disinterested or annoying. There's absolutely no heart here.

Technically, Jack and Jill is cheap. The visuals are overlit and flat, the music blatantly forces unearned emotions, the sound is basic and inane (with excessive farts), and the cast is nepotism, awkward, and misplaced. Its effects offer obvious stunts, rushed CGI, negligent green-screening, simple split screens, and minimal prosthetics. The disorganized editing provides no timing, energy, tempo, cohesion, or intention. Finally, while the production design is occasionally professional, that generic standard comes with constant, overt product placements (with literal commercial breaks). Overall, Jack and Jill is sloppy, grating, stale, and disrespectful. This isn't a movie, it's a grift.
