M3GAN 2.0

M3GAN 2.0 is inconsistent. It's overstuffed with convoluted plot points that distract emotional investment, confuse pacing, and increase exposition to unnecessary levels. All the characters are stale outlines. Only Megan has any personality, but her self-aware snark quickly becomes try-hard as well as grating. This is worsened by its acting, which is disengaged (lacking vulnerability and coming across farcical). There are contrived motivations, desensitizing threats, forced gimmicks, MacGuffins, and halfhearted attempts at interpersonal conflicts. Meanwhile, its messaging around AI is muddled, contradicting the satire from the original. Thus, M3GAN 2.0 is less with more.
Technically, M3GAN 2.0 is a jumble of incohesive parts. Attempting to conceal missing quality with excessive quantity, its direction fumbles tone and genre. The standard cinematography is adequate yet scarcely elevated. Its overlong and aimless editing has clunky cross cuts that generate boring momentum. An above-average amount of genre elements fills the soundscape. Besides some diegetic songs, its music is forgettable. Despite increased scale plus mild iconography, the production design feels generic. Its cast has returners but insignificant fame or fit. Though arguably aesthetic, the awkward CGI looks like a Snapchat filter. Consequently, M3GAN 2.0 isn't worth the time.
