Murder Mystery 2 is an empty cash grab. There's blunt exposition, annoying protagonists, inane banter, predictable cliches, contrivances, incompetent villains, shallow characters, no drama, nonsense logic, inconsistencies, forced humor, and a lazy plot. It has no surprises, emotions, themes, consequences, or tension, sloppily bumbling through thin tropes. Its comedy attempts are either juvenile or mocking the narrative. True jokes come from constructed ideas, realities, or characters, yet this film only undermines its tone and exposes its cheapness. Plus, Sandler is often grating despite Aniston's chemistry. Overall, Murder Mystery 2 is derivative and insulting.
Technically, Murder Mystery 2 is bland. Its direction is apathetic. Besides one dance, the production design is hollow and fake. Its inactive sound only offers a clunky voiceover and a couple stings. The afterthought music uses forgettable pop songs. Its editing adds montages, inserts, and muddled action, but its rushed pacing and monotonous momentum never connect. The cinematography is flat and basic. Its effects are awkward and disillusioning. The casting of Sandler is recognizable, yet he's long past comedic passion and unbelievable as Aniston's romantic partner. Ultimately, Murder Mystery 2 is more professional than Happy Madison's worst products, but that's faint praise.
