No Hard Feelings is mediocre. Its raunchy comedy is a tired and outdated imitation. It doesn't even fully commit, shifting into unearned melodrama halfway through. It's nice that the film attempts some heart, but its clunky approach confuses the tone. Characters are tropes, developments feel forced, and everything is predictable. Plus, the premise is rather uncomfortable if not problematic. Meanwhile, the okay acting adds clumsy comedy, slight depth, and average chemistry. Lawrence may get all the attention but Feldman is the best part of the movie. Between its forgettable humor, generic drama, and inconsiderate implications, No Hard Feelings doesn't have much worthwhile to say.
Technically, No Hard Feelings is plain. The halfhearted direction feels aimless. Its flat cinematography uses brief movement, angles, and focus. The editing has some montages, jump cuts, and slo-mo, but is mostly bland. Its sound provides maybe one split cut, sting, and riser each. The production design is standard with mild effort for the location and classism aspects. Its effects boil down to a couple of stunts and some ill-fitting CGI. The music is wholly arbitrary outside of a plot-relevant needle drop. Finally, the cast has one poster-worthy name who might be entering a lesser stage of her career with this role. Overall, No Hard Feelings is derivative and lackluster.
