Operation Fortune

Operation Fortune jumbles fun pieces with tired tropes. It has witty quips, but that's the only clear positive. The plot is convoluted and contrived. The characters are emotionally shallow. The espionage conflicts often resolve without tension. There's abundant plot armor, a common MacGuffin, and an abrupt ending. Luckily, the cast enhances their roles with distinction and chemistry. Particularly, Plaza displays great timing and unique charisma. Some might say she's making a farce, but her proactiveness is a highlight. Overall, Operation Fortune has flashes of interesting gimmicks, setup/payoff, and sharp dialogue, but it's a mishmash that waters down Ritchie's style.

Technically, Operation Fortune is a bit routine. Its brisk editing has inserts, cross-cuts, split screens, timeline jumps, and smash cuts, but some might find it rushed and chopped. The audio hooks viewers with a rhythmic pace, action sounds, split cuts, and emphasis. The globe-trotting production design is confined compared to the genre. Its recognizable cast is unique, including Hartnett's comeback. The clear but plain visuals use motion, composition, and focus. Its effects heighten combat yet sometimes feel stifled. The generic music adds a fun needle drop. Ultimately, Operation Fortune strikes a light tone and swift tempo, but its lacking heart hinders its impact.
