The Bad Guys 2 buoys questionable storytelling with flashy energy. Its plot and villain are generic. Easily resolved without growth or loss, the drama is superficial. Its themes feel mild because it's missing a compelling internal conflict. Still, the narrative is tolerable even if it's underwhelming. The collection of antiheroes is likable, its rude humor frequently works, and the espionage is straightforward. Furthermore, while the acting isn't demanding (lacking range or vulnerability), it has charisma plus chemistry. There's blunt exposition, consistent setup/payoff, and, borderline, too many characters. Consequently, The Bad Guys 2 lands despite its messy writing.
Technically, The Bad Guys 2 is playful. Though erratic, its direction relishes cartoonish exaggeration. The splashy cinematography adds movement, framing, lighting, and composition. Despite being overstuffed, its editing offers sharp action as well as brisk pacing. Genre elements, smash cuts, and subjective distortions fill the soundscape. Its jazzy scoring radiates a fitting personality. Applying vectorization, vibrant colors, and painterly aesthetics, the production design harnesses graphic novel influences. Its cast provides skill plus satisfactory fame. The CGI is a creative combination of 2D with 3D animations. Overall, The Bad Guys 2 has admirable qualities.
