The Terminator is potent. Never stalling, its story builds on a high concept with concisely established characters (including a relatable protagonist) and rising tension before diving into a streamlined, sci-fi horror action conflict. The dialogue has memorable lines plus earned exposition (delivered when desired, as the plot moves). Its conclusion provides a twist that's both thought-provoking as well as satisfying. Altogether, this makes for a textbook script full of energy, creativity, and emotional engagement. Consistent intensity, chemistry, a menacing villain, and growth are communicated through its performances. Therefore, The Terminator is a bona fide classic.

The Terminator blends genres into a gritty aesthetic. Showing rather than telling, its imagery feels intuitive. The editing maximizes momentum via motivated cross cuts, clear structure, and sharp pacing. Genre elements enliven its soundscape. Alongside a techno atmosphere, the music offers an iconic theme. Its production design conveys industrialism, a dystopian future, and a definitive monster. The cast is career-defining, even for Schwarzenegger (whose superstardom ignited here). An impressive variety of tangible effects (like rear screens, miniatures, pyrotechnics, stop-motion, and puppets) are utilized. Overall, The Terminator's tight craft secures its landmark status.
