The Underdoggs

With a derivative premise and unprepared details, The Underdoggs is embarrassingly low effort. Some might call it a well-intentioned advocacy for the underprivileged, but it's much more of a puff piece for a celebrity's brand. There's inane dialogue, obvious exposition, tropes, stereotypes, a dislikable protagonist, contrivances, thin motivations, and unearned redemption. The stilted and monotone acting lacks range, chemistry, charisma, growth, vulnerability, and impact. It postures themes of honesty and family, but its insincerity is insulting. Plus, the shock value humor is stale and superficial. Ultimately, The Underdoggs is a pointless, annoying, disposable, and cynical farce.

Technically, The Underdoggs has no personality, enthusiasm, purpose, or tone. The imagery is flat, rudimentary, and forgettable (with overly shaky sports sequences). Its editing uses excessive montages, making the plot and drama feel weightless. The mediocre sound adds blunt voiceovers, basic action, and echoes. Its music is vaguely fitting at times but often feels arbitrary, generic, and even cringey. The production design is tacky, littered with product placement, and indistinct. Its cast has fame, weak skills, and awkward fit (with incongruent age differences). The distracting effects offer cheap CGI and unconvincing stunts. Overall, The Underdoggs is manipulative and negligent.
