They Will Kill You

They Will Kill You is almost there. It establishes relatable motivations. The high-concept plot invites satire. This leads to broader themes of dehumanization plus more personal ideas of abandonment. However, it lacks sufficient payoff. The story becomes repetitive and needs an arc (though at least there's external resolution). This is because its protagonist acknowledges her flaw immediately, so there's no internal conflict to overcome. There's decent setup/payoff, clear stakes, twists, and clunky exposition. While mostly one-note, the acting provides intensity, physicality, and touches of range. Thus, They Will Kill You displays promising ingredients but doesn't solidify.
Blending extreme subjects with exaggerated style, They Will Kill You embraces a campy tone. Although occasionally murky, the cinematography employs flamboyant techniques. Despite diminishing momentum, its editing incorporates flashbacks as well as action within a tight runtime. Pulpy stings, genre elements, emphasis, and smash cuts heighten the soundscape. Its production design's paletted aesthetics offset its limited scope. The cast could use more star power, but spotlights diversity plus interesting fit. Its effects offer playful tangibility alongside mediocre CGI. Consequently, They Will Kill You has fun ideas, yet is missing a developed core to carry it through.
