Thor: The Dark World is inconsequential and impersonal. Its villain is flat, his plan is cliche, world-building is underdeveloped, the romance is stale, action is boring, drama is rushed, Thor doesn’t arc, Jane is useless, and there’s little payoff. Again, the most interesting part is Loki, but his arc is nullified. Therefore, The Dark World accomplishes nothing. Viewers will feel no enthusiasm and immediately forget The Dark World because it consistently chooses the safe route. Essentially, it's a corporate film, built by a committee to challenge nobody. Cluttered with overused ideas that go nowhere, The Dark World is a lifeless amalgam of tropes.
Technically, The Dark World is similarly bland. The visuals have unappealing colors, basic framing, and dull craft. The editing is bloated and monotonously paced. There's generic music, CGI-heavy effects, unoriginal production design, and stifled acting. The sound design is complex but derivative. Lastly, the direction is sterile, trying to minimize risk rather than convey a vision. Overall, this might be the worst MCU film because it exposes their formulas without heart or creative support. Clearly, it was a movie produced out of obligation, not passion. With flaccid emotions, soulless filmmaking, and absent leadership, The Dark World is wholly indifferent.
